Remember Dunkirk, Britain has come back from a disaster before: Support the Second Referendum

The results from the vote on the 23rd were of course more than disappointing, shocking and for some a major wake up call. But this rude awakening to a troubling turn of events does not mean that all is lost, remember Dunkirk.

We have a long hard fight ahead of us, but if we REGROUP, CONCENTRATE and most of all KEEP CALM we will overcome, as we always have.

The kid gloves must also come off, as they did in 1940. Liars must be exposed, manipulators must be denounced, cold hard facts must be embraced and notions of romanticism must be abandoned.

This is not a brave and determined resistance by the people of Great Britain against the iron fist of the EU, it is an elitist plot by some self-serving British politicians, masquerading as the common man, to further their careers and/or seize power.

The Leave campaign have lied (directly and by omission), they have manipulated people and facts to further their agenda, they have made empty and worthless promises, they have slandered and now they are back-pedalling so fast that the cream is soon to become butter.

For all these reasons, please support the second Referendum:

Let’s have a Referendum based on facts, based on truths, based on calm consideration.

Boris Johnson says there is no hurry to leave the EU and we should not turn our back on Europe.

Michale Gove aplogises for comparing economic experts warning against Brexit to Nazis. “I answered with an answer as I often do with an historical analogy, it was clumsy and in approriate”

I, John Tilt, want the UK to Remain in the EU because…..

I have been writing on IM chat at the same time (auf Deutsch), so I hope what I have written makes sense. But people here are also very concerned. Final InfographicThey do not understand why we have needed to go down this road. I was recently talking with some guys down at the open-air football in the town and they asked me what the aim was. I said that – throughout 28 EU nations – we can study freely in universities, buy houses, work without foreign work permits, run businesses without special permission and access a market of 500 Million people. What do you get if Britain leaves one guy asked. “None of the above” I replied. And Farage managed to persuade his zombies that this was a goer? Exactly which drugs have they all been taking?

There are cases to be made on either side so I don´t expectFinal Infographic new ideas to sway people. What should sway people is the rabble-rousing, distorting, and lying that Gove and Johnson have displayed. Do you really want these Trump-like people in power? Do you really want their hard-line far-right privatisation and punish-the-poor policies pushed through? Vote them out and keep them out.

Nothing about the ideals, principles and philosophy of the EU is wrong, misinformed, bigoted, cruel or violent. Nothing is based on hatred or fear, unless you count a determination not to plunge Europe into chaos ever again as fear. Some of the implementation isn’t the greatest, but that’s a question of evolution, a process which is already taking place in the EU, a process to which the UK has already contributed a great deal. During its membership of the EU, the UK has evolved from an economy in dire straits into one of its economic leaders, ain’t that great? Yes, of course, but there’s more to it than that. Our country has embraced freedom, progress, tolerance and united effort, to an extent that our parents and grandparents, who fought for those values, would be proud of. If we now reject that concept, what does it say about us and our values? I’d prefer the UK not to be a “green and unpleasant land”.

If you are thinking of voting to leave, I ask you to think again. I have not heard either side talk about the biggest problem with leaving: Final Infographic

Almost all of our trade agreements and a large part of our current laws are based on our EU membership. The leave campaign talk as though we can just negotiate new agreements, and they don’t even mention the need to revise a massive proportion of our legislation. But how practical is this really?

Well, an optimistic estimate is that this is going to take well over 10 years. We just don’t have the diplomats and parliamentary time or resources to do it any faster – and even to do it in 10 years will mean doing a bodged job and abandoning the idea of democracy in the form of proper parliamentary oversight and debate as we revise so much of our law.

You may think this is an exaggeration, but other countries, trying to negotiate just one agreement comparable to a small part of the numerous trade agreements we are doing to have to try and form, have taken far longer. The Swiss started negotiations with the EU n 1972 and are, and are still working on them. As for the Norwegians, their own P.M. tells us we would not like their deal, they have to pay to be part of the common market and agree to abide by many EU regulations.

So could we go with out the EU as the Leave Campaign claim? There are real problems with that. Most of our current trade agreements are based on our EU membership and an number of countries, including the US have already announced, not only that the existing agreements will terminate as soon as we leave, but that they will not negotiate a new agreement with us until we have first reached an agreement with the EU. The fact is that we have a much stronger negotiating position within the EU than we would have without it, and if we leave we really will have to start from square one renegotiating with everyone. So, even if the deal we might eventually get 10-20 years down the line is better than the one we have now, it will have to be blindingly good to make up for the many years of economic problems and ruined lives it is inevitably going to cost us.

Moreover, at the end of the day we are still going to have to conform to EU regulations if we are going to trade with them, so all this disruption, that will definitely harm our economy, is going to nothing to free us from those regulations it will just take away our current privileged seat at the negotiating table at which they are set.

In the end it is not unelected bureaucrats in the EU who rule Europe, it is the elected governments of the member nations who come together to determine EU policy. Don’t take your Democratic representatives away from the table, or you will loose your democratic say in the institution that is going to have a massive influence on your life how ever you vote and whatever the outcome.

But don’t take my word for it, check out this guy, he does know what he is talking about:

The arguments have been made , so from the heart. I am Scottish but I hope I have a world view. We live on precious island in space we dont own it , we Final Infographicare custodians for the future. Part of that shared responsibility is making the world a more equitable and caring place. I have sympathy for those who with poor intellect and a desire for instant gratification , but bigotry and stupidity is no excuse for disenfranchising future generations. Its not all economics Keynes said in the long run we are all dead, its about a world view of coperation , consideration and responsibility for a caring and more equal world.

a critical day in my country’s history. British people get to decide if the UK continues to look to the future in a union with other countries in Europe,Final Infographic with proven economic, social and environmental benefits; moreover, a union that has kept these countries from going to war with each other for the longest period in history. The alternative is to turn our back on the rest of Europe and walk away into the unknown, to go backwards into national isolation and fear of those from ‘outside’. I’m not eligible to vote, but if I could, I wouldn’t think twice about which option to choose.

I, Rob Pigney, want the UK to Remain in the EU because…..

The EU is the larval stage of a better world that many Europeans have dreamed of over the centuries, it is the result of centuries or even millenia of conflict among the people of Europe, after untold quantities of death, destruction and hubris we have finally said “Enough”. Larvae are not pretty and they consume a lot of green stuff it’s true, but the transformation and end result are beautiful and, in my opinion, worth every penny.Final Infographic

I want a world where people work together to achieve what was once impossible, where people always have somewhere or someone to turn to, a world where blood, sweat and tears are a thing of the past.

I am proud to be part of the people that work towards this goal, to work towards a world without limits, a world without hate, hubris, prejudice or war.

It’s my hope that one day if we work long enough and hard enough Europe will change into a better, brighter more peaceful version of the one we have known before.

Final InfographicAlthough only part formed and still imperfect the European Union already delivers many benefits. The UK should be a leading player in the reform and development of the EU, not on the basis of extracting more opt-outs but on the basis of helping to develop a more flexible and reactive Union of Nations. We have the talent and capability we only need to have the belief in ourselves.
